So, what are YOU planning on eating for your Valentine’s Day meal? Here at La Posta de Mesilla, just about everything you can order includes spicy, local chile and jalapenos. “So what” you ask? Well consider this…. according to Meryl S. Rosofsky, a doctor and adjunct professor in the department of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University, chile is highly associated with romance!  GO FIGURE!

Rosofsky points out in the New York Times, that the effects of eating chile is much like the type of pleasure we get from being in love! When you eat something hot – like our famous salsa – your pulse might quicken and you might even sweat just a little. Have you ever had those feelings around the love of your life? What’s more, when you eat hot chile your body releases endorphins, that chemical that gives you that “head over heels” feeling!

Our salsa is a good start, but we can get even spicier than that! Try our green chile rellenos smothered in green chile….or our green chile enchiladas. Both of these are made with local, Hatch green chile. And you can request our hotter version! Alternatively you can also order our red chile, which many believe is the best in the valley. A great place to start is our famous red enchiladas – voted the best in Las Cruces!

But what might be even better than that is something that’s really a combination of sweet and spicy. That can be found in our famous Chile ‘Rita! We’ve been making this margarita for years and it’s still one of the most popular cocktails in the restaurant. We make it using a Habenero Blackberry syrup that locally made. In fact, the syrup is actually called “Besito Caliente,” or “Hot Kiss!” What could be better for Valentine’s Day? The sweetness of the margarita slowly gives way to the spice of the Habanero….and it’s all complimented by delicious Hornitos 100% Agave Reposado Tequila and Patron Citronge.

Happy Valentine's Day!
